Chef Dan Krohmer brought a truly fresh restaurant concept to the Spring Valley neighborhood in 2015 with Other Mama and now he’s expanding his Las Vegas offerings Downtown with the new Japanese yakitori bar Hatsumi and the coming-soon Mexican eatery La Monja, both at the Fergusons Motel on East Fremont Street. He’s a very busy individual but he dropped everything to be our guest on this episode of the All The Vegas podcast.
We also talk with Dan about his past gigs cooking at Coachella and feeding performers and crew on tour with Taylor Swift and Godsmack; how and why Las Vegas won him over; spending time working in Japan and developing an appreciation for its cuisine and culture; why McCarran should be the most hospitable airport in the country; putting shrimp and bacon into his okonomiyaki at Hatsumi; how to choose the right oyster topping and what it’s going to be like to make tortillas on Fremont Street.
EPISODE 27: THE VEGAS YOU NEED
Dan wants everyone to start eating local and you can get going by exploring the offerings of Desert Bloom Eco-Farm.
Mark wants to have drinks and wield hatchets. Turns out you can do that at Axe Monkeys, the city’s best-loved axe-throwing facility.
Brock wants you to hit the Strip and see some shows this summer and maybe start with Cirque du Soleil’s action-packed special-effects extravaganza KÁ at MGM Grand.
