Trevor Groth, artistic director of the CineVegas film festival, was named this week as director of programming for Sundance, America’s highest-profile film festival. Groth has been a Sundance programmer since 1993, and his experience there was a big factor in his initial hiring at CineVegas. In his new position, Groth will be responsible for all of Sundance’s film programming.

“There’s definitely going to be a transition year,” Groth says of his role with CineVegas, which he’ll retain. CineVegas Associate Director of Programming Mike Plante will take on a larger role, but Groth doesn’t anticipate going away. “I’m completely dedicated to CineVegas,” he says. “I think a lot of the work I do for each festival overlaps.”
