The Harry Potter franchise is full of colorful supporting characters who add to the tapestry of the movies’ world. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable from the series’ seven films.
Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) The big lug went on to become one of the most lovable (and reliable) characters in the whole franchise.
Shirley Henderson as Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) A goofy ghost who haunts the girls’ bathroom at Hogwarts, Myrtle leers at Harry but also helps in his hour of need.
Gary Oldman as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) Oldman brought dangerous energy to the part of an escaped wizard convict coming after Harry.
Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) Before becoming a megastar thanks to Twilight, Pattinson played Harry’s noble and self-sacrificing rival in a wizarding tournament.
Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) Staunton gave a delightful performance as the gleefully officious tyrant who takes over Hogwarts.
Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) The addled but troubled professor is a complex foil for Harry in his quest for answers.
Rhys Ifans as Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (2010) The eccentric, scatterbrained wizard journalist is instrumental in Harry’s struggle against Voldemort.
