If you saw the 2008 documentary Young @ Heart and thought it needed more blatantly contrived sentiment, then Unfinished Song is the movie for you. Like Young @ Heart, it's about a chorus of senior citizens who perform popular songs with more enthusiasm than talent. Here the focus is on the terminally ill but cheerful Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) and her grumpy husband Arthur (Terence Stamp), who doesn’t understand all the fuss about singing these ridiculous songs. Will Arthur learn to embrace the love of performing that his wife holds dear? Writer-director Paul Andrew Williams isn't going to offer anything but the most expected answer in the most expected fashion. Stamp brings dignity to his performance as a curmudgeon who learns to open up, but a movie that views old folks singing Salt-n-Pepa's "Let's Talk About Sex" and Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" as the height of humor isn't ever going to win points for subtlety.
