Sixty-seven words about the work of artist Geoffrey Todd Smith

At the Main Gallery through October 31

Image

Abstract. Color-drunk. Pattern-happy. Spazzy! Occasionally pinwheelish. Doodle-reminiscent. Plausibly inspired by casino carpeting? Gaudy! Insanely detailed. Like nightmares clowns have. Distant. Spirograph-evoking. Insistent. Abundant! Plausibly inspired by hallucinogenic experience? Disorienting if stared at for 15 minutes. “Refers to the act of viewing” (sorry, obligatory art jargon). Visually hot, emotionally cool. Meticulously cadenced. Decorative, in the Elton-John’s-private-bathroom sense. Beatlesque. Mysterious. Not driven by content. Circularly motifed. Kaleidoscopic. Lovely.
