3. The Contemporary Arts Center relocates. The Valley’s longest-running nonprofit contemporary art organization dedicated to experimental and cutting-edge art moved from its longtime space in the Arts Factory to a temporary, donated location on Main Street.
4. Clark County moves forward with its public arts program. In August, the County hired artist Denise Duarte to oversee the program and created a seven-member committee of art professionals who review potential sites and provide expertise on budgets and the jury selection process.
5. Arts District bars touch off debate. Fears that bar-fueled redevelopment might take over were stoked this fall when Las Vegas Ballet School owner Welthy Silva chose to fight developers who, she says, asked her to break her lease so they could replace it with another business, possibly a bar.
