The Las Vegas Film Festival is the city’s biggest general-interest film fest, and this year there are four days of programming, including feature films, shorts, parties and awards. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.
Liars, Fires and Bears
Jeremy Cloe’s debut feature film was the highlight of the recent Vegas Indie Film Fest, and the Weekly just named Cloe Las Vegas’ best local filmmaker. If you haven’t seen this funny, poignant, well-acted film yet, now’s your chance. July 19, 2 p.m.
Jimmy “The Gent” Burke/Mob Panel
A documentary about infamous mobster Burke (played by Robert De Niro in Goodfellas) will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the brother of the late Henry Hill along with other Mob experts, focused on Burke and Hill’s infamous 1978 Lufthansa heist. July 20, 1 p.m.
Down and Dangerous
This thriller about a smuggler on the run co-stars UNLV grads John T. Woods and Ernest Curcio alongside Judd Nelson. July 19, 8:30 p.m.
Raze/Zoë Bell Tribute
This year’s Indie Icon award will go to Bell, the stuntwoman and actress whose credits include Death Proof, Lost and Whip It. Raze, an action thriller co-starring Bell and Rachel Nichols, will screen along with the award presentation and discussion. July 20, 6 p.m.
