The North Koreans have really been stepping up their fictional attacks on the United States lately. First they stood in for the Chinese (who replaced the Russians) in the Red Dawn remake, and now they’re behind an assault on the White House in the moronic Olympus Has Fallen. To be fair, it’s actually a rogue North Korean terrorist group that takes over the White House and holds the president (Aaron Eckhart) hostage. Cue gruff Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), who plays by his own rules, gets results, enjoys one-liners, etc. Mike is, of course, the only guy who can shoot enough people in the head and cause enough explosions to rescue the president. The cheesy, jingoistic Olympus has all the freshness of a Sylvester Stallone vehicle from 1986 (and some of the special effects to match). The North Koreans really ought to work on appearing in better movies.
