I’ve never been to a wine tasting, but I doubt I’d find it as enjoyable as the soda tasting at soda-and-candy shop Rocket Fizz—a chance to sample multiple kinds of soda at a store that features hundreds. I had tastes of, among others, birch beer (not birch-y enough, said my friend; it tasted just like root beer to me); a blood orange soda that was a little too tart; some neon-blue monstrosity that tasted like liquid cotton candy; and something called Fukola Cola.

My friend sampled the communist-themed Leninade, the store’s most popular drink, and loved it. I bought a bottle for later. Elsewhere we spotted Faygo (preferred drink of the Insane Clown Posse); Jolt (a fond memory from college); Sopranos-themed sodas with flavors like amaretto and chianti; and, uh, Coca-Cola. On the way out, I heard a kid declare to his parents, “See? I told you it was a soda store!” Damn right, kid.
