The Mob Museum received an award for bringing history to life at local schools. The City of Las Vegas’ Historic Preservation Commission presented the Downtown institution with its Preservation Education award for the museum’s Investigating History educational outreach program.
“We are extremely proud our newest community outreach initiative has received this recognition during its very first year,” said Jonathan Ullman, executive director of the Mob Museum. “Our aim is to enlighten and inspire area students, while working collaboratively with teachers.”
The Investigating History program teaches Clark County students about Las Vegas history, constitutional law and criminal justice through classroom presentations using artifacts, images, reproduced documents, and activities. Lesson plans cover a variety of topics from “Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam” to “Prohibition and American Society.” At the time of its nomination 1,753 students have participated in the program.
