The head trip that is “Mystere”

As the large baby begins to totter on the brink of falling, as a snail the size of a Mack truck unfolds on the stage, as two muscle-bound dudes swirl around one another, it begins to dawn on you: So this is what taking drugs is like. Mystère may be Cirque du Soleil’s first foray onto the Strip, and it’s been eclipsed by, oh, just about every other Cirque foray since. But get to this show early; one of the best parts of Mystère is the way the “ushers” screw with the audience, pretending to rip up their tickets, guiding them to seats that don’t exist and generally showing just how gullible people really are. It’s like getting a free course in psychology.

Treasure Island, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday, $60-$95, 894-7722, treasureisland.com.
