The company also offers a Club Vibe, where members can trade music and stories about their experiences. And for that extra local touch, Robert Oleysyck is a featured DJ on the sitethough that news came as a surprise to him.
Buddha's Birthday
Has it only been a year since Tao opened? Apparently so, and the restaurant, lounge and nightclub is throwing a weekend's worth of parties to celebrate. Friday, owners Jason Strauss and Noah Tepperberg invite the masses to catch Grammy-winning hip-hop violinist Miri Ben-Ari. If you've never seen a violinist get a screaming ovation from a nightclub crowd, now's your chance. And coming from the Far East (New York, that is), DJ Reach will be on the turntables. Saturday night will see Janet Jackson hosting and celebrating her new CD, 20 Y.O. That night will be closed to the public but we'll bet dollars to doughnuts there'll be a red carpet.
Local Boys Drink Good
Rock 'n' Roll Wine has been an unqualified success since the day Chris Hammond and Sonny Barton uncorked their first bottle, pairing fortified grape juice with rock music. The pair are following up their recent Rock 'n' Roll Amp'd Festival with the release of their first vintage: Reggae Rhapsody. Described as having "the balance and subtle complexity of a Bob Marley protest anthem coupled with the blissful 'life is good' zest of a Jimmy Cliff serenade," the blend will be sold in two-, four-, six- and 12-packs titled the Non-Inhaler, the One-Hitter, the Nappy Dreadlock and the Phat Doobie. (We lead pretty wholesome lives here at the Weekly, so if one of our readers can explain those names to us, we'd be grateful.)
