The state engineer on Monday decided that the Southern Nevada Water Authority can suck almost 20 billion gallons of groundwater from White Pine County at a rate of up to 60,000 acre-feet per year—(Vegas wanted 91,000). Somehow, north and south and environmentalist and capitalist are happyish about the decision, best summed up by environmental attorney Matt Kenna in the R-J:
“I think the state engineer sort of split the baby a bit.”
